OUR STORY

Founding Members/Executive Board: Lois Brown, Tahsha Wilson, Jennifer Jenkins, Jo Layton, Margie Jordan

In 2009 a group of authors wanted to give back to their community by hosting a writing contest for teens. That idea grew into a major teen writers' conference where teens could sharpen their literary skills and gain the tools they need to tell their stories.

The first Teen Author Boot Camp was held in 2011 on the Utah Valley University campus. The group soon realized a massive need for this program and others like it in the community and gained nonprofit status in 2013 with a focus of creating reading and writing opportunities for underserved children. Thus, Operation Literacy was born! Teen Author Boot Camp grew into the largest teen writers' conference of it's kind in the country and gave way to Tween Author Boot Camp, summer writing camps, TABC Classroom, the Teen Readers' Choice Awards, Teen Dungeon Bootcamp, and now StoryCon. The organization also spearheads Book Drop, which delivers free books and author visits to children at Title One schools.

As the years have gone by, Operation Literacy has connected young writers with world-renowned, bestselling authors in environments that foster creativity, problem solving, and connection. The invention of StoryCon expands that vision to support storytelling in many forms, with writing at the center of it all.
