For the great results, slather it on liberally when you know you're going to be exposed to writers for more than a few minutes. It is especially helpful to use extra just before attending a writers conference.
In the final analysis, Writer's Block is helpful, but the best practice is to lay down a good base so that your body's natural protection can take hold. One way to do this is to wander back into the reference stacks at your local library, then strip to the buff.
Be sure to turn after five minutes, and not to expose yourself longer than ten minutes total, to start.
Use eye protection.
