Name one short story that inspired you to write short stories yourself?
"Greasy Lake" by T.C. Boyle
Who are your five favorite short story writers?
Besides Marquez & Boyle, five more I would name are: Amy Hempel, Lydia Davis, Ana Castillo, Sherman Alexie and I can't decide on just one more so both Eddie Chuculate and Shann Ray. You also can't go wrong with classics like Twain, Poe and Doyle, but that goes without saying.
What are five short stories that you would recommend everybody should read?
"Senator's Son" by Sherman Alexie, "Galveston Bay, 1826" by Eddie Chuculate, "In The Cemetery Where Al Jolson Is Buried" by Amy Hempel, "The Paperhanger" by William Gay, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" by Ambrose Bierce. If you want something a little different I'd say "Bestiary" by Stephen Graham Jones is a cool honorable mention here.
If you could fight any character in a short story who would that be?
Easy. Holmes. I would fight Mycroft Holmes.
